The Turkey Drive began 10 years ago with my children Lily, Peter and Grace. After reading about the reduced funding from the state of CT to our local food banks and soup kitchens, I wanted my family to do its part in sharing our treasures with our less fortunate neighbors. The first year Lily, Peter and myself delivered 15 turkeys to a Bridgeport Food Bank. The next year they invited friends to help and we delivered 25 turkeys. Each year after that, the children participation continued to grow and so have the number of turkeys being delivered. A few years later our good friends, who's children had been coming with us almost since the beginning, purchased the fixings to make complete Thanksgiving meals for each family. That year we delivered 50 complete dinners and the number continues to grow. Due to expansion of participation we were at our transportation limit. Originally I drove the children in my Suburban but that soon became too small. Fortunately, Red Dot Limousine, has been generous enough to help out and donates a van for transportation. The van has now been upgraded to a mini bus that accommodates 22 people! This allows me to load the bus with the children, where they can experience firsthand the thankful families that benefit from their generosity.

In 2012 we prepared and donated 150 complete Turkey Dinners.
What an amazing event. We donated and helped in the assembly and delivery of 200 complete dinners to King’s Pantry, Fresh Point, Daughters of Charity and East End Community Center. These dinners fed extremely needy families that otherwise may have gone without for Thanksgiving. It was truly a great show of community and generosity by friends, neighbors and volunteers. Again this year the children were able to hear from Charlene Chambers at Kings Pantry and Sister Theresa at Daughters of Charity about the families that will benefit from our donations. Both woman have dedicated the better part of their lives in helping those less fortunate and it’s truly inspiring to be around those that look to help others before themselves. Again thank you so much for making a difference in our community! We even made the newspaper... http://www.fairfield-sun.com/18843/neighborhood-turkey-drive-hits-new-heights
WOW! What an amazing day! Thank you everyone who came out to help, donate and pack 250 meals! This year exceeded all my expectations and I am so proud to be part of such a great cause for people in need. I can only imagine what next year will bring. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! You are all truly a great inspiration and member of our community!!
We made the paper again this year!
